IT WASN'T TO BE FOR REES AND GEE

After putting their Yamaha R1 on pole, it wasn’t to be Kawerau’s Tony Rees and Auckland’s Paul Gees’ day at the “Quality Hotel” 4 Hour on Sunday at Manfeild.

They ran at the front of the field, with the Suzukis of the Bernard/Harris and Stroud/Coughey combinations.

The race had several emergency car periods, which bunched, up the field each time; it was during one of these periods that Rees slipped off the track and had to come into the pits for repairs, which were carried out quickly and professionally.
Unfortunately upon rejoining the race, Paul Gee also had an off at the 2hour 20 minute mark.

The very professional Yamaha Team worked hard on the bike and had it back on the track in a matter of minutes; nevertheless all their efforts were to no avail, as it transpired there was a small hole in the radiator.

However this was not going to stop this pair. The Yamaha R1 was taken back into the pit for repairs, rejoining the race at the three hour mark and came home in 22nd, 58 laps behind winners Andrew Stroud and Daniel Coughey on a Suzuki GSXR750.
