Slight in UK race

Aaron Slight is back in action for the final time this year, at this weekend\'s English round of the world superbike championship.

Missing the start of the season after brain surgery, Slight finds himself in the unusual situation of not contesting the top of the standings. But he\'s determined to end the year on a high note.

\"It\'s only now I\'ve begun to feel at home on the bike,\" said the Kiwi-born star of the Castrol Honda team.

\"Just over the past month when there\'s been a break in the programme I\'ve been feeling stronger in myself and better able to focus.\"

\"Obviously that has an effect on my riding and I\'m pleased to be going to Brands Hatch which is a circuit I enjoy - even though I had a crash here recently.\"

The 4.19km track in south London is hosting its second SBK event of the year, after the scheduled 13th round at Imola in Italy was cancelled. In the second race of the last outing here, Slight slipped uninjured from his one-litre V-twin racebike when trying to press on with a slipping clutch.

The two legs were won by the Ducati bikes of Australian Troy Bayliss and local resident Neil Hodgson who has now signed to return to world superbikes next year.

At 34 Slight looks back on some close finishes to earlier seasons - twice pipped by a whisker for the title and six years in a row in the top three before the symptoms which led to his brain surgery, then undiagnosed, relegated him to fourth in the championship.

Slight\'s Honda teammate Colin Edwards (USA) will also be gunning for a big finale this weekend to seal his championship title.

The two races are live on Sky TV overnight Sunday NZ time.
