Garry McCoy got a flying start from poleon the Red Bull Yamaha, but was soon headed by Gibernau on the Repsol Honda With Roberts in third. Gibernau got to the lead a couple Of times but McCoy got back in front each time.

\"Once I got the lead from Gibernau, I thought I\'d just try and keep it all together,\" McCoy said. \"From there my lead just kept growing and that isn\'t an experience I\'ve had before. I\'ve been waiting a long time for this win and now I feel great.\" ,/p>

Roberts got through to take 2nd ahead of Rossi, to ensure he kept his comfort zone in the championship point table , as Rossi is his nearest rival.

Gibernau crashed heavily on lap 20 but was uninjured.

\"We did what we needed to do,\" Roberts Jr. said. \"I tried to stay with Garry but I was losing too much on the straightaway, so I’m happy to get out of here with second.\"

After 12 of 16 rounds, Roberts Jr. leads Rossi 194 to 148, while former championship rival Carlos Checa fell farther behind with his 11th place.
