WSBK Race 2. Haga 1, KIWI Slight 4th

Posted: Mon 04 Sep 2000

Race 2 showed some of the best racing so far this year. This race started dry, Edwards got a good start but Haga shot though and took the lead shortly after.

Bayliss got past Edwards and he and Haga settled into a duel, swapping lead time and time again. Sometimes 3 changes of lead in 3 corners, It was brutal, knees, elbows and fairings, push and shove in a really exciting dog fight. But Bayliss again went down this time 3 laps from the end and Haga was left alone in the front.

There was a good fight for the minor placings with Yanagawa taking second and Borja again getting a good showing for third. Slight challenged Borja to the end for third, but his fourth placing was his best showing all year. After the race Slight had this to say, \"I worked hard after that poor start and I\'m happy to get fourth, I had trouble with the rear tire sliding around but I think everyone suffered the same trouble.\"

Edward who was 1st in Race 1 also had tire problems. \"I went for the wrong tire and paid the price,\" Edwards said in a Castrol Honda press release. \"I should have chosen a different compound but the one I used seem to have a strange influence on the machine. I felt like I was a gear out everywhere. \"It\'s disappointing for the championship points to close up but hopefully we can get it right next Sunday in Germany and I can bag a couple of wins there.\"

Troy Corser followed his first race fourth with a second race seventh and dropped down in the points championship. He trails Edwards by 35 points.

Ben Bostrom continued his bad luck and retired on the third lap. Chili who crashed in the 1st race crashed very heavily in the 2nd as well when he was running third.
