Motocross sensation Josh Coppins has taken fourth spot in moto leg one at the German 250 grand prix, to maintain his comfortable third in the world championship.

The young Kiwi expat slipped on lap two, plunging to seventh spot, but gamely fought back to trail his closest rival, German Pit Beirer.

Now on a solid 310 points, Suzuki Corona star Coppins is 15 ahead of the Kawasaki veteran with one more moto at this GP plus next week\'s final round in Switzerland.

Reigning world champ Fred Bolley won the moto to extend his new-found title lead over Coppins\' teammate Mickael Pichon.

Honda rider Bolley has 370 points, while his French compatriot but bitter rival Pichon slipped to ninth place in this race and 359 points overall.

The second moto leg follows a couple of hours after this first at the Talkessel circuit, a twisting 1.85km ribbon of track at Teutschenthal near Halle south of Berlin.
