Max Biaggi from pole took the lead and was never headed opening an ever increasing lead and doing it easy in a great return to form.

The race was for second between Rossi, Roberts, Caparossi, and McCoy. The race for 2nd swapped several times early on and eventually settled to Rossi and McCoy as the two dominant riders with Roberts in fourth and Caparossi in 5th.

Rossi and McCoy swapped the lead on a regular basis with McCoy sliding his Yamaha around in almost dirt bike style. Sliding into the corners and powering out drifting sideways it was a real show for the spectators. The air horns were deafening. McCoy was the only rider to choose soft tyres at each end and the heat took it\'s toll eventually. With two laps to go Rossi slide past McCoy who was held up for just a second by a back marker, and that gave Rossi the 2nd place.

Rossi\'s 2nd means he goes into 2nd place in the championship pushing Checa back to third, four points behind. Rossi is 42 points behind Roberts. Caparossi is 4th in the points with 123.

Barros and Abe both crashed out.
