Brno 500gp - Biaggi takes pole, it seems things are going the right way for Max Biaggi . Fastest in 2nd round of practice, including setting a new track record. In qualifying on pole he broke the record again. The time of 2.02.291 was faster than Loris Capirossi ind 2nd place , by four tenths of a second.

Caparossi broke his hand again in practice and at the end of the session was bandaged and in some pain. Not a good sign for tonight\'s race.

Biaggi who has won four 250 races and last years 500 race at Brno had this to say after practice.\" The team did a great job today and I’m looking forward to tomorrow because I’m really glad to be on pole,\" explained Biaggi, who has not won a race this season. \"This confirms the speed we had yesterday. Everything feels right and this is one of my favourite tracks. We made a few changes to the front end that stopped the chatter, so I feel I can push hard in the race.\"

Kenny Roberts was third fastest and Garry McCoy fills out the front row. Carlos Checa who is chasing Roberts in the Points race (38 points behind) crashed in the afternoon and qualified 15th, so he will have his work cut out trying to get to the front to make an impression on Roberts lead.

Alex Barros also crashed in practice and will start from 11th position. The first six riders were all under the old lap record on the 5.4.3 km track, which promises good weather and great racing.

The rest of the grid is below.

  1. Max Biaggi (Yamaha), 2:01.291
  2. Loris Capirossi (Honda), 2:01.675
