Coppins closes on title

Motocross sensation Josh Coppins continues his dingdong battle for third and fourth spots in the glamour world 250 champs, slipping marginally today in Belgium but closing up on the title leaders.

With 4th and 7th placings at the very demanding Namur circuit, the 23-year-old expat from Motueka took his Corona Suzuki to 271 points in the championship, just five behind arch-rival Pit Beirer (Kawasaki) who reclaimed third spot.

But the sensation of the grand prix was trouble for both championship leaders, slipping backwards at a vital time in the title hunt.

Coppins\' teammate Mickael Pichon, who has led all year, dropped to just four points ahead of reigning world champion, fellow Frenchman Fred Bolley (Honda).

The pair are just 60 points clear of Beirer and Coppins with three rounds remaining, each round offering a rider a potential 40 points.
