Donnigton Results 500 GP

The race was declared wet, which delayed the start, as riders changed to full wets. There was spray every where but the rain had stopped and the track gradually dried out, a definite dry line from about two thirds of the way through the race. That caused wet tyres to start to go off.

Barros got a flyer and so did Laconi and there two shared the early lead until they had used up their tyres and started to slip back through the field.

With the wet track Roberts eventually took a reasonable lead but was challenged by Rossi and McWiliams, these three swapped the lead around with McWilliams leading for a few laps. The British crowd were hyped up to the max, there was a chance that a British rider could win the British GP for the first time in 19 years.

But the track came into play more and more and on the last lap it came down to who was the bravest on what was left of their tyres.

Rossi in from McWilliams with Roberts third. Two corners from home Roberts made a move on McWilliams under braking, and tried for Rossi as well but he came up just short.

Loris Capirossi was fourth but 22 seconds behind. Carlos Checa finished in 11th allowing Roberts overall lead in the World Championship to increase.
