Haga Saga FIM appeal lost - out for Laguna Seca

Posted: Sat 01 Jul 2000

Noriyuki Haga will miss Next weekend\'s superbike race at Laguna Seca.

There was a reduction in the length of his time suspension to three weeks begining 30th June. This means that Haga will miss the one race only. Here is the transcript of the press release from the FIM

\"The International Tribunal of Appeal (TIA), composed of Mrs. Clotilde Galy President), and Messrs. Jacques Bourguignon and Santiago Puig I Viladomiu, convened today at the FIM headquarters in Mies in order to judge the appeal lodged by Japanese rider Noriyuki Haga against the decision of the International Disciplinary Court taken in Hockenheim on June 2 last. The rider was present at the hearing, together with his lawyer Mr. Emile Vrijman and Mr. Davide Brivio (Team Manager, Yamaha). Prof. Klaus Müller (of the IOC-accredited anti-doping laboratory), Mr. Sverker Backlund (of International Doping Test Management) and Prof. J. van Rossum (professor of pharmacology) were present as experts.

\"The appeal was considered acceptable, but not well-founded. The TIA took the following sanctions: Mr. Haga is suspended for a period of three weeks as from today, June 30 (prohibition from taking part in any of the activities under FIM control). He remains excluded from the results of the South African round of the Superbike World Championship, and must return the trophies, prizes and indemnities received at that event, and bear the costs of the hearing. The full decision will be notified later.

There is no word yet as to Yamaha\' statement earlier in the week that they may take the matter further if they didn\'t get a favorable result at the hearing.

I don\'t think we have heard the last of this yet.
