Bushriders at Tarawera 100

Sean Clarke (DRZ400) won his first Tarawera 100 today in spectacular style after Michael Gibbons led for the first two laps.

Richard Ebbett tried to take out the fence in his van as he entered the carpark. This was embarrassing but not as painful as the 5th gear tank slapper that threw him down the track on the first lap. Shaken but not stirred, he climbed back on and putted round to finish 20th overall for the day.

David Silk (KX250) managed 10 out of 10 for his cartwheel into the trees after overshooting a berm.

Mark Fuller clipped a fallen tree as he passed Stephen Bird and managed to save it.

After a terrible start Paul Whibley managed to work his way back up through the field to finish 3rd overall. He said it would never have happened if he had had an electric start CR.

Murray Searle used his YZ426 to put on a show for the helicopter, thinking that he might be on the Shell Helix Motorsport programme. Unfortunately, it was just giving the locals a joyride but they enjoyed the show enough to follow him for a few kays.

In actual fact, the helicopter flight was a huge success. For $20 you got a birds eye view of what looked like, from the air at least, the biggest motorcross track in New Zealand.

The tree sections were really good
Traction was really good – bikes were hooking up
The TT section in the front paddock was awesome.
