Laguna Seca Safety Improvements

Laguna Seca Raceway has made all the safety improvements requested by the FIM and has been re-homologated for the 2000 season.

The changes do not affect the track layout.

They provide for more run off area at the Corkscrew and turn 5 and new FIM approved curbing at turn 9

Laguna Seca Raceway General Manager, John Stornetta said,“Safety has always been of the utmost priority at Laguna Seca Raceway,”. “Although these changes were initiated by the FIM, they will enhance safety for all of the racing series that compete at the track.”

The Cork screw surrounds have been heavily changed with modifications including a gravel pit added, the area behind the corner which was a ravine which has been filled to allow more run off room. This entailed moving a 100 year old tree, the moving of which caused some difficulty.

The new safety changes should enhance what has always been a demanding track.
