Tarawera Time Again

Posted: Tue 20 Jun 2000

Next Saturday, June 24th, will see the running of the 23rd Annual “TARAWERA 100”, the longest continuously run Off-Road motorcycle event in New Zealand.

The event attracts riders from all riding backgrounds, with the likes of five times winner, Kawerau’s own Wayne Jennings, the current NZ Cross Country Champion Napier’s Adam Youren and Shaun Clark, holder of 9 National Enduro Championships.

Kawerau’s Richard Underwood is the only rider to have entered all 23 events.

This year’s event will be run on a totally new track, with the start being moved to the “Horse Paddock”, beside the Pinelands Motor Hotel, giving great spectator viewing.
With the generosity of Carter Holt Harvey, Tasman Forest Industries, Fletcher Challenge Forests, the neighbouring farmers and land owners, track designers Colin Reeves and Neil Paton, along with their band of helpers, have laid out an amazing network of new tracks and trails, to form the 100km multi lap event.

Each 40km lap moves through varying terrain, from tight forest sections, to grasslands and onto forest roads, giving great riding conditions for all of the 200plus riders expected at this year’s event.
