500 GP Catalunya what the riders are saying

The weather has played it\'s part at Catalunya, just to stir the already volatile mix of this years 500cc championship. Those who prepared early got a reward as the rains came and spoiled the others chances of quick times. Fridays grid is as per previous story posted here Friday.

So how do the fast guys rate their chances in the race.

Barros, in only his 2nd pole position since he started racing in 1990 and that is consecutive to his last start ( he has had 138 500GP starts) had this to say in his press release \"Of course we want it to be dry, it’s better and safer for us and better for the fans, I feel 100 percent physically and mentally, for sure we can fight for the win here.\"

Could it be that Barros is benefiting from the time he is spending with his tai chi instructor Rudolfo Hernandez from Venezuela.

Checa, 1st equal with Roberts in the championship, said \"This track is slippery in the wet, really slippery in some places,\" \"I’m not too happy with my bike in the rain, I’m finding it hard to keep my line and getting too much wheelspin out of the turns. I really wanted a dry track today, so we could test race tires because we never got around to doing that yesterday. Obviously, I want a dry race and I’ve no doubt that I can run up front; hopefully warm-up will be dry so we can test race tires.\"

Checa will be going hard for the win to shake Roberts.

Biaggi, not happy at the wet track has number 8 spot on the grid. He is hoping for sunshine. Biaggi was quoted as saying \"We’ve lost a whole day of dry track time, so we don’t have the bike totally right for the dry.If the weather is good tomorrow we have some other settings to try during morning warm-up, but of course that’s only 20 minutes and that’s not long to decide on a set-up and choose race tires. We weren’t too bad in the wet today,(7th) we found a pretty good set-up, so we’re sorted if it rains for the race. I always prefer racing in the dry so we’re hoping for some sunshine.\"

Kenny Roberts, who usually does alright in the wet, proved it again with clocking best lap of the day in the rain, appears to have a \'come what may attitude\' of if it\'s dry, I\'ll be up there, and if it rains, I\'ll be in front. \"I’ll be happy in any conditions but the wet will help us,\" said Roberts, \"If it’s dry we’ll have to see if the front Hondas can get away in the race, hopefully the other Honda guys won’t find the same set-up.\"

Roberts, has had difficulties in his last two dry races, but his team seem to think they have all problems sorted for todays race.

What ever the conditions there will be some good close racing.
