IoM Disqualification & Junior TT

More on Brett Richmonds (Waikato) win in the 400cc class of the Lightweight TT. Originally he was placed 2nd - BUT - Irishman Geoff McMullan was later disqualified for riding a 600cc engined bike in a 400cc race!

Strangely the 2nd finishing bike of Brett\'s was stripped immediately after the race & not the bike of the winner, but then, after the garland podium ceremony, someone noticed McMullan\'s bike had 36mm carbs on a 400! (Normally 32mm).

Insisting on having it stripped the bikes mechanics said \"they didn\'t know how to strip the engine\". So the rider was called by cell phone, who said he was back in Ireland & couldn\'t do the job from there. But the clever Manxmen located that rider\'s cell phone still in Douglas IoM, with the man himself!

Further insistence or perhaps \"gentle persuasion\" got the bike stripped & found it was a 600cc motor. The IoM jury met & confirmed the race goes to our Brett Richmond on the Shand Honda CBR400.

In the actual race, Brett overshot the pit \"stop box\" and was given 5 penalty points, which equated to him originally losing the race by about a second.

The result also made Honda happy too, as every race until Wednesday lunchtime, including the sidecars, had been won by Hondas, as Joey Dunlop has won yet another Ultra Lightweight TT on a Castrol Honda. His 26th TT win.

Craig Shirriffs also rode a Shand Honda CBR400, but the battery went flat on the 2nd lap. A brand new battery! A = disappointed Craig, as his CBR600 rear shock arrived after practice finished, so he couldn\'t qualify for the Junior TT, so that\'s his week over.

Palmerston North\'s Warren Turner reports that he has rebuilt his Yamaha R1 engine & it\'s performing better than ever.

The Junior TT was won by David Jefferies on a V&M Yamaha R6, with Joey Dunlop in 4th this time.

Of the Kiwis, Shaun Harris was 8th on a Yamaha R6, Blair Degerholm 9th on an I\'Sport Kawasaki ZX6R, John Hepburn (Honda 600) in 19th - all the above winning bronze medals, and Warren Turner at 42nd on his Yamaha R6.
