Slight gain in superbikes

Superbike hero Aaron Slight continues his comeback this weekend at the high-speed Hockenheim circuit in Germany.

For the Kiwi expat it will be just his third event since his remarkable recovery from brain surgery earlier this year.

On a track where he was fastest in qualifying last year and has previously won races, the pressure is on.

\"I\'m trying to take things one race at a time,\" said the 34-year-old star of the Castrol Honda team.

\"Obviously I\'d like to do well at Hockenheim as it\'s been a happy hunting ground for me, but realistically I\'m still coming back to form against a competitive group of riders who have been going strong all year.\"

A fortnight ago the Masterton-born pro racer bounced back from a scary high-speed crash in Italy to take fifth spot.

At the 6.79km circuit at Hockenheim, 85 km from Frankfurt, he stood on the winner\'s rostrum in 1996 and 1997.

Another multiple winner at this track, British multiple champion Carl Fogarty, is still absent with injury.

\"It\'s not the same without Carl around but there\'s still plenty of motivation for me to keep improving,\" commented Slight.

\"I just need more races under my belt, especially as I come to grips with a new bike.\"

Slight\'s American teammate Colin Edwards has made the most of his opportunities on the new V-twin Honda, leading the championship after five of 13 rounds.

The two legs from Hockenheim are on Sky TV overnight Sunday.
