The Castrol and Chesterfield-backed Suzuki Endurance Racing Team totally dominated the Estoril 8-Hour Endurance Race in Portugal.

Jean-Michel Bayle took pole position on the GSX-R750 with a 1:45.182 lap. Then Bayle and teammates Christian Lavieille and Arnaud Van Den Bossche carved through the field in the early stages of the race, lapping the entire pack within three hours. They then settled into a comfortable lead, one lap ahead of UK Suzuki team M&P Phase One - matching the privateer squad\'s lap times to hold their position until the British team crashed with only 20 minutes to go. The Guyot GMT Kawasaki team moved into second place, with Phase One holding third.

After the race, Lavielle said that although it seemed an easy win; \"It was never that easy - It\'s important not to make mistakes\". Bayle agreed; \"Sometimes it is difficult to manage an advantage.\" He also praised the teamwork in the pits and the marshalling at Estoril.

This result moves the French team into first place in the World Endurance Championship, with four more rounds to go. The next race is the 24 Heures de Liege at Spa-Francorchamps.
