Crafer back in Superbikes.

Posted: Fri 26 May 2000

Simon Crafer will ride for Kawasaki at Hockenheim in Germany in the next round of World Superbikes.

Crafer will replace the injured Spaniard Gregoria Lavilla who broke his pelvis in a fall at Monza during the 2nd race.

He will be racing as team mate for Akira Yanagawa in the Kwaka factory team. According to Crafer this will suit him as he will be on Dunlops which he believes are better than the Michelins that covered the rims of the Red Bull Yamaha.

Yanagawa and and Lavilla are both high up on the championship table, Yanagawa in fifth, and Lavilla in seventh.

With results that consistant it would be hard to see it as anything other than Crafers last chance to impress. He was saying nothing other than he would do his talking after the race, as he did not want to put pressure on himself before the races. He is flying to Europe but will not ride the bike until testing in Hockenheim. His contract is race by race.

Meanwhile, Aaron Slight makes progress in a most relaxed manner, with regard to his crash at Monza during Superpole, he said \' I would have felt like slitting my wrists a year ago, but I see things a little differently these days, it was a learning experiance , and it was good to get the first crash out of the way since my operation\".

Slight rates Hockenheim as one of his favorite tracks.

All good Kiwi bikers will be up to cheer the boys home next weekend, and we are promised some good races.
