The Ducati Factory is looking at fitting the new 999 engine into the King Carl\'s superbike. While the factory is giving no details about the changes to the Superbike, it is suspected that it features changes to the heads and some form of variable valve timing.

There has been no definate release date for a new bike, but the new motor retains the 90 degree V Twin lay out so it will fit into the present frame.

Ducati UK Boss Pier Paolo Guidi said \"putting the new engine in the current frame is one idea we are looking at. Development is driven by the WSB team not the market- so any decision comes down to how Carl is doing\".

To make such a change the Factory wil have to homologate the bike and 200 Road going versions will have to be built.

WSB rules allow manufacturers to update bikes halfway through the season, as long as plans are disclosed to the WSB Governing body by June.

With Carl down on points due to his fall it is a good bet when he returns he will be on an updated bike in an effort to close up the gap. We could be in for some great racing later in the season.
