The big machines once again produced fantastic racing at the NW200 with Michael Rutter grabbing his second win of the day, scoring the victory after a series of nerve-wracking tussles.
David Jefferies roared off the grid, his Yamaha rearing into the air as he pounded down the first straight. From there until the final seconds of the race it was a heart-stopping battle.
On the second lap Jefferies had edged ahead of Rutter with Ian Lougher and Jim Moodie battling it out behind. At the end of the third Moodie pulled off a fantastci series of braking manoeuvres to steal third. The tussle between Rutter and Jefferies continued throughout the remaining laps and but by Metropole on the last lap Jefferies had been forced back into fourth.
As the bikes screamed past the finishing line Rutter was followed home by Moodie, with Jefferies back up to third, Lougher fourth and Joey Dunlop fifth.

For anyone doubting that the 600 race was competitive, no less than three riders managed to grab new lap records. The new record is now held by Scot Jim Moodie on the Honda in a race that was dominated by the V&M Yamahas of Rutter, Jefferies and Lougher.

Craig Shirriffs started at the rear of the grid and had not done a lap on his bike at race pace he managed to battle his way up to 14th but went into the Magic roundabout alittle fast and decided to take the slip road on the last lap looseing 3 places and finishing 17th
