Stress For Shirriffs In Northern Ireland

Posted: Wed 03 May 2000

Hi everybody, We\'ll be bring you all the latest news directly from the North West 200 and Isle of Man TT over the next month.
Watch this space.
Its 7 o\'clock tuesday evening in Northern Ireland the roads are now closed around the 9 mile public road circuit between Portstewart, Portrush and Colraine
After such a beautiful day all over Northern Ireland a heavy mist has settled in over the triangle circuit.
The bikes are siiting on the grid for the begining of the first practice session.
Craig Shirriffs only got hold of his John Shand Honda CBR600 at lunch time today, Jason Easton and Craig spent all afternoon trying to get it to run on all four cyclinders with little joy.
Light looks like its going to be a big problem this evening.
As I type the clerk of the course has just passed us on his final lap before the off.
Visability from where we are is down to 150 yrds!
Could we be in the Isle of Man?

First lap of practice and Jim Moodie and Ian Duffus are the first bikes around in this Production Bike and 250cc session.
Craig had to retire at the York hairpin less than half a mile from the start line on the first lap with a suspected dropped valve, a big disappointment

Its cold and getting dark. The mist is rolling in fast. The sessions are being shortened because of the lack of light.

Its been a dark cold night here at the North West 200, even so the practice sessions have been fast and furious. The Dunlop brothers are flying in the 125cc class. Adrian Archibald also had a great session in the production class on his new Honda almost 1 second a lap faster than his closest rival Ian Duffus.
We\'ll see what the Thursday night practice sessions bring when all the riders get their heads down attempting to get the best lap times for good grid positions.
