Dyno Testing & Flying Pigs

At round one of the 2000 Suzuki Road Race Series, Mike King of KBK Motorcycles turned up to dyno test all the Sport Production 600 & Open Class bikes, as well as Streetstock 150cc class bikes, as they came off the track.

While the power output varied between makes by a few BHP, the comparisons were interesting when viewing the bikes in outright back straight speed, and lap times.

The 600 class bikes rear wheel output varied from 93.4 to 100.6 BHP, the bigger class bikes from 107.9 to 136.4 BHP for 750\'s & 1000\'s. But surprise of the lot were the 150 Streetstock class bikes, which varied in output from 25.3 to 28.1 BHP at the rear wheel! Now remember these bikes sell for about $3,000 give or take a bit, and are mass produced as a sports bike, not a racer.

Now if we cunning Kiwis were to strap a few of these little 150 motors together to make a 600 we would produce 110.8 BHP, for a 750 we get 138.5, & for a 1000cc we\'d get 184.7 BHP - we could blow the WSK bikes away! And the cost would be 6.66 Streetstock 150 bikes, plus some flying pink pigs!
