Southland Motorcycle Club President\'s Report
Not a lot has happened since my last report with some sections of the club, while others have had lots of fun. The speedway team are still organising their big meeting for the first weekend in March. Although there hasn\'t been any motocross meetings a lot of our members will have competed at the Nationals in Gore last weekend, so hopefully by the time you read this we will have some good results for local riders.
On the road race scene we had our annual flying 1/4 mile at Edendale,a successful record was attempted by Johnny Hepburn. A couple of our local riders were not far off the pace either with Mark Stevens putting in a best speed of 177.86 mph and Mark Weller a speed of 173.74 mph, both on Suzuki 1300s.
Another excellent result was Andy Crichton\'s speed of 157.61 mph on the Team Robertson CBR600RR Castrol Honda. Not many classics out there though, where were you guys?
The next day was a club day at Teretonga once again with small fields in the classics which made it quite easy for me to win! Come on don\'t make it too easy for me, get out there and support these meetings.
Andy Crichton rode very fast till he wore out his back tyre and went home early.
Shane Livingstone and John Beck had a good battle for 2nd place all day and (Henry) Bryan Edhouse was pushing the NSR250 to the max not far behind them. A good meeting but please more riders.
The following weekend saw our classic riders in Dunedin for hte Classic Speed Fest where local rider Graham Russel rode the wheels off his 350 Honda to get good placings all day.
Another rider who really stood out was Pete Jones on the Dunelt always a crowd favourite. Pete can really biff that thing around a street circuit. I don\'t know how he does it, the bike handles badly, has no brakes to speak of and is 71 years old, yet Pete is normally right in amongst them.
Enough for now, get riding you lot and give me something to write about.
