The East Cape Adventure Ride 2000 will be a motorcycle riding experience not to be missed.
The East Cape, a natural get away from it all destination, is the region for the ride. There is no use taking a cell phone, because there is no coverage available!
The event takes place over two days starting and ending at Whakatane. Day one will see riders cruisng along the coast via SH35 with special inland off road stages for Adventure Trail Riders, finishing at Te Araroa for the night. Day two involves riding back to Whakatane via an inland route over huge farm stations, back country gravel roads, including the famous Motu Road. Adventure road riders travel back via Gisborne and the windy Waioweka gorge.
There are two riidng options for the event. One: Adventure Trail - suitable for trail and adventure bikes. Trail/adventure style tyres recommended. Option two: Adventure road. All sealed road, with flowing corners and hills.
The concept for the event is a motorcycle ride in one of New Zealand\'s most wild, scenic, and remote areas. A low key, social, ride what you bring, nothing is a problem philosophy is encouraged. The event is designed around supporting local communities and businesses.
The ride will incorporate many of the special features of the East Cape including: a magical mix of winding sealed roads, gravel roads, remote farm stations, pine forest, native forest, breathtaking views, exclusive access to remote areas not accessible to the public, the world\'s eastern most lighthouse and cinema, the world\'s largest pohutakawa tree, the Southern Hemisphere\'s largest slip, and a ride along the famous Motu Road - venue of the World\'s International Rally.
The event is being organised by the combined forces of former MNZ Coaching Director and NZ Cross Country Champion Nick Reader and Phil Goldsmith, Company Director of Underwood and Wilkins Motorcycles Ltd, Whakatane.
As a special luxury, all gear is carried and full mechanical support offered by the organisers. You may carry all or some of your own gear if you would prefer. All meals and accommodation supplied. Riders stay in tents. Cabins or motels are available for a small additional fee.
