The Motocross Des Nations 2000 team is now nearly $2000 towards this years challenge thanks to fundraising efforts started during the Mystery Creek Supercross event. The launch for fundraising for the millennium Motocross Des Nations Team started at a special “Dine with The Stars” fundraising dinner in November.

Hosted by Taupiri Supercross Promoters Des and Jenny Caulfield the event held at Hamilton’s Waldorf Lounge during the Mystery Creek Supercross raised $400 for this years Motocross Des Nations Team.

The dinner guests included the Mystery Creek Supercross stars including Darryll and Shayne King, Lee Hogan, Kiwi champ Josh Coppins and Michael Cotter, Darryl Hurley and an Australian contingent that included Chad Reed, Brett Metcalfe and Andrew Mc Farlane.

M.C Neil Ritchie was as lively behind a microphone off the track as on, and he introduced Mystery Creek General Manager Barry Quayle. Quayle made an encouraging speech on the decision to run the event and that their overseas research had shown the event had the potential to attract the level of attendance necessary to make the event viable and sustainable as an annual event. He commended the talent of New Zealand riders and left the podium having thanked the kiwi dirt riders for their genuine support in returning to NZ for the event.

Over $800 was raised at an auction of items donated by the riders especially for Des Nations Team fundraising, and a further $400 was raised from a live public auction of donated gear at the Mystery Creek venue.

Fundraising organizers Jenny Caulfield and Darlene King were rapt with the response.

“ It was great, we even had an offer of free cattle grazing with the funds going to support the team. With the 2000 event being in France we will have a better chance of getting the team there, and putting the New Zealand back on the podium“ said Darlene.

For Jenny Caulfield the lack of funding for a team last year was the impetus for getting fundraising started early.

“ The boys missed a chance because the funding wasn’t there, so this year we’re determined to get our boys there. Des and I put up a $170 donation to recognize the support we’ve got from the riders and to give something back to the sport ”

The BNZ “NZ Motorcross Des Nations Team “ bank account is nearing the $2,000 mark and will measure the support for this year’s yet-to-be-named team. The account will remain in perpetuity to allow each year’s team to benefit from its establishment.

The Motocross Des Nations event is one of the most prestigious on the Motocross calendar and corporate sponsorship has been strong for other international teams.
