Women's Taupo Track Day

Posted: Mon 07 Feb 2000

WIMA Wellington are holding a Track Day at the Centennial Park Raceway in Taupo on Saturday 19th February. This is a recommended event for all women, as it will take place in a friendly, no-pressure environment with lots of support. Our goal is to provide the place for y\'all to get out there, have a go, and have fun while doing it.

Boys who are keen to support us Chicks are welcome to come along too, as they\'ll get a chance for a hoon as well. This is how it works:
We plan to divide attendees into 4 classes, namely:
\"beginners/slow\", \"medium\", \"fast\" and ... wait for it boys, \"men\".
Reporting time at the track will be 9am sharp, at which time a briefing will be held to fill everyone in on the day\'s schedule and general flag/marshalling rules. The fun will be kicking off round about 9:30am with the beginners\' class. Our esteemed Captain, Yvonne Forrest, who is a veteran of road racing, will be available for tuition in this class, to encourage beginners to learn the right lines and gain confidence on the track, and after lunch the beginners\' class will open up to include pillion rides (another chance for the boys!). A food caravan will be on site for grub & liquid refreshments.

Regarding accommodation for those who want to stay in Taupo, availability is TIGHT due to a coincision with the region\'s annual \"Round the Lake Relay\" on the same weekend. I have managed to book some caravans close to Centennial Drive which will accommodate four people each @ $27 each for both nights - first come first served. There is other accommodation also available - please contact me on this.

After the fun day, the Red Barrel hotel on the Taupo Lake waterfront will be our start-off venue for all who want to cruise in for a well-earned beer and a catch-up.

Really hope to see ya there. For any inquiries at all don\'t hesitate to get in touch with yours truly. My home phone no. is 04-387-4997 or email me at Vicki.Knight@chenpalm.co.nz
