Post Classic Race Meet Announced

Posted: Fri 21 Jan 2000

In a move based upon the significant growth in Post Classic racing seen over the last 4 years, the Historic Racing Register (HRR) and the Auckland Motorcycle Club (AMCC) are joining forces to promote the Inaugural Post Classic race meeting later this year.

At this early stage, final details of the meeting have yet to be confirmed, but it is anticipated that the Post Classic classes will include those for Pre 1972 and Pre 1982 machines divided by capacity, and an invitational GP race for factory built road racers. Riders with \"Classic\" (eg Pre 1962) and \"Bears\" machines will also be catered for.

The HRR is anticipating that a number of well known riders from the 70\'s and 80\'s will again pull on the leathers to join the likes of Vince Sharpe, Sean Donnelly, David Ogden and Kevin Grey on the circuit again. Additionally we are also expecting there will be a big turn out of bikes rarely seen these days outside of post classic racing circles or museums, such as the NZ Bike of the Century - the CB750 Honda, Yamaha\'s TZ750 and giant killing TZ350, Kawasaki\'s Z1\'s, McIntosh Suzukis and the like.

Various options in terms of circuits and timings were considered and eventually Pukekohe Park Raceway on September 10, 2000 was selected. The circuit and timing was finally chosen based upon the number of Post Classic entrants competing in events run in the upper North Island of late and also to allow plenty of warning for entrants who are still completing machines to race in this style of event. Notwithstanding this, in future years there is no reason why this cannot be varied to provide variety for the entrants and spectators alike.

An open invitation to attend will also be made to post classic racers from Australia as the Post Classic movement has also seen significant growth across the Tasman, including races at the reborn Bathurst Bike meeting this Easter.
