Premier Supercross Sets Scene

The Tokoroa turned on a brilliant night of premier Supercross racing at the Amisfield circuit last weekend for Round One of the New Zealand Supercross Championships.

World number 7 Josh Coppins fresh up from his win at Mystery Creek looked unbeatable as he blasted away both the Senior 125 and 250 classes. Coppins has been in Europe testing machinery at his Belgium base. The affable rider has reaped the benefits of having full Suzuki factory support.

Unforced errors kept Coppins honest as Masterton’s Burkhart brothers Luke and Jonathon pushed Coppins in the senior 125 rounds. .Brett Metcalfe’s off in Round 3 left him having to work through the back markers and left Coppins ahead by 15 points by the end of the round.

Known as the fastest things on two wheels under 16 years, Australian Brett Metcalfe relished the tight Amisfield track and deserved his number three place in the Senior 250cc class.

Scene is now set for a battle royal at the second and final round of the New Zealand Supercross Championships this weekend at the Taupiri Supercross Stadium just north of Hamilton.
