Gisborne All Go

Posted: Fri 17 Dec 1999

In what is hoped to be the world\'s first motorcycle street race in the new millenium, the organisers of the Gisborne meeting are confident of success.

The meeting which forms round 2 of the very successful \"Battle of the Streets\" Motorcycle Race Series is assured of attracting record crowd numbers due to the huge increase in visitor numbers expected for the millenium celebrations.

The major sponsor of the event is once again the Gisborne Cosmopolitan Club. Lion Breweries sponsorship has also been secured. A grant from the Gisborne Millenium Trust Fund has also assisted the event. The Millenium Trust has been a regular contributor since it\'s establishment in 1996. Other sponsorships are now being finalised as promotional details are put in place.

Along with its sponsorship of the meeting the Gisborne Cosmopolitan Club also provide a first class prize giving venue. In fact the prize giving itself has become somewhat of a jewel in the crown of the Gisborne Motorcycle Sports Club and may well be without equal in New Zealand motorcycle racing. The Gisborne Club is very proud of it\'s association with the \'Cossie\' and hope it will continue to be a regular part of it\'s Battle of the Streets round.

Race organiser Paul Corrin said that although accommodation in Gisborne for that period is very difficult to find contingencies have been put in place. The Gisborne Combined Motorcycle Group is hosting a rally to coincide with the street race meeting. This is the third year that they have held the rally. The rally venue is within two kilometres of the Awapuni Street Circuit at Churchill Park. Riders would be ideally placed and rally organisers are providing good amenities, security and entertainment. A flyer has been included with the Battle of the Streets entry pack and further information could be obtained by calling raly contact Des Chiles 06 867 5886.
