More Titles For Castrol Honda

Castrol Honda has picked up another two national road race titles with inspired riding at the Blue Wing Honda championship event at Pukekohe near Auckland.

Shaun Harris (New Plymouth) took the NZ Formula Two TT title while Aucklander Ray Clee won the 600 Sport roadbike crown, both on Castrol Honda CBR600 street machines.
Clee has won TT titles twice before but for Harris it\'s a first - an appropriate one as he\'s a lap record holder at the famed Isle of Man course from which the Tourist Trophy name is taken.

Harris, 30, won in slightly controversial circumstances. Dicing throughout with Castrol Honda teammate and great rival Brad Selfe (Oamaru) he had to relinquish the lead at the end to Wellingtonian Daniel McLaughlin.

But McLaughlin was relegated to second for passing under a yellow flag. Selfe took fourth spot behind the mover of the race, another teammate Glen Jeffery (Auckland) on his RS250 racebike.

In the earlier F2 event Jeffery powered through the field from a slow start to claim second ahead of Harris and Selfe.

The day\'s racing leaves Harris second in the national championship going to the final round at Manfeild near Palmerston North next weekend - his 141 points 10 better than Selfe but 35 shy of McLaughlin. Jeffery is fourth on 102.

Meanwhile Clee\'s brilliant day with a pair of victories on the CBR600 roadster is reward for hard work during a tough season.

He took a stranglehold on the TT title early in the 30-minute production race and never looked like being beaten. In the earlier event for championship points the 28-year-old had to fight through the field for victory.

Harris and Selfe shared fourth and fifth places in the two races, with 24-year-old Selfe now second in the national title chase behind Kawerau\'s Tony Rees and ahead of Harris.

Hayden Bool (Christchurch) took eighth placings on his CBR600 as he recovers from a wrist injury.

Clee had the fire-breathing Castrol Honda CBR900 superbike fired up, recording a hefty 267 kph down the dogleg back straight of Pukekohe en route to third place in that class.
