A fresh autumnal day greeted the 21 riders that turned up on Sunday at the property of Anna Akers, Awahou South Road. It was nice to welcome seven riders from Twin Shock Trials NZ with some beautifully prepared bikes. Seems a shame to get them muddy, but maybe cleaning and fettling are all part of the fun for these guys?

Geoff and Nick had set out eight sections in two groups of four separated by a paddock containing a herd of black Angus cows. The cows were quite interested in what we were doing and were not at all perturbed at the sight of riders zipping past between sections.

We usually make good use of the stream flowing through the paddocks but now that it has been fenced off Nick and Geoff had to look further afield to find good section material. The first four sections were set amongst the fallen poplar trees and on a grassy bank. Not too difficult for most, which is a nice way to start a trial. Sections 5-8 were past the cows, and were a mixture of fallen logs and muddy banks. Section 6 was the hardest, judging by the scores, as it cut up badly during the trial.

A-grade was won by Kevin, although we was the only rider entered in that grade. The two youngsters (Hannah and Daniel) decided he needed some competition so they rode the A-grade lines on the last two laps

The best of the Intermediates was Alistair King from the Hawkes Bay who gave a masterly display and lost only 4 marks for the day. The number of clubman riders was low for a change, and Geoff was the best on the day. Sportsman grade is a step up from the social lines, and was easily won by AJ Wheatley who is now riding with a lot of confidence.

Gerald Bull gave the other twin-shock A-grade riders a good old fashioned whupping, finishing the day clean. Well done! John Sendall was too good in the twin shock B-grade.

MOMCC riders entered were competing for the Bruce and Bai Cup, which is awarded to the rider with the lowest score from any grade. This year the honour goes to Chris Morrison. Congratulations and good riding Chris!

The next event is Round 2 of the club champs, on June 21 at the Leamy Property (was Coombes) on Pohangina Road near No. 3 Line intersection.
