Unfortunately the chequered flag came out after just 2.5 hours. Heavy rain Friday night and Saturday morning had affected the track and, after everyone had completed a lap, it was starting to cut up.
If all the problem areas had been cut out it was just going to become a gravel road sprint - not just fast and dangerous in the cold slippery conditions but also with logistical problems such as riders stuck on the greasy uphills while their mates raced around the roads.
Sean, very reluctantly, was forced to pull the pin.
I doubt that many people were too upset by this - it was a pretty coolish sort of a day. Finishing early also meant that there was a fair result for the day.
Sundays 3 Hour Challenge will be rescheduled for as soon as possible
