Coming up this weekend is the celebration of 50 years of motorcycling by the Tauranga Motorcycle Club Inc.

The Tauranga Motorcycle Club Incorporated was formed in 1949 to serve the interests of all motorcyclists. During the past fifty years the club\'s history has reflected the tremendous diversity of motorcycling which has developed. Members of the club have won championships and medals and major events for almost every form of the sport ever devised. From national titles in roadracing, sidecars, motocross, trials, enduro and hill climb, to overseas representation at the Isle of Mann and Grand prix, Tauranga has truly a proud history in motorcycle sport.

To celebrate the past half century, the Tauranga Motorcycle Club is inviting motorcycle enthusiasts who have had an association with the club in the past to join them at a jubilee reunion on the weekend of October 30/31.

The weekend\'s events culminate in a dinner which will be held on Saturday evening at the Greerton Motor Inn. Guest speaker will be New Zealand\'s 4 times World Champion roadracer Hugh Anderson who made his racing debut at the Tauranga Motorcycle Club\'s Te Puna roadraces in 1956. He will talk about his experiences at some of our local racing venues from the debut event through circuits at Otumoetai and Mount Maunganui.

Other speakers will recall great moments from the club\'s history including the excellent scrambles (motocross) events held at McLeod\'s Farmin Welcome Bay, through to the more than 25 years of roadracing held at the former Baypark circuit.

The weekend officially kicks off on Saturday morning with displays at Greerton Village and Greerton Motor Inn, and a ride through downtown Tauranga. After lunch a conducted coach tour of former racing venues takes place.

Sunday morning participants have the choice of the historic hillclimb at McLeod\'s Farm for machines (and riders) of all eras, or the Waikareao sprints held in conjunction with the Targa Rally along the expressway. A number of New Zealand champions are entered for both.

Bookings for the Jubilee dinner are filling up fast so if you do want to catch up with old colleagues and rivals you will need to register promptly. All enquiries should be made to Shelley Dean (07) 578 9416. This is an excellent occasion for anyone who has wither been a member of the Tauranga Motorcycle club or has competed at their events over the past half century.
