3 Days at Oparau

Posted: Wed 25 Jan 2012

The big 3 day event at Oparau is coming up fast. The weekend starts out with the 1st round of the Yamaha National Enduro series on Saturday.

The enduro will be about 125ks long for senior riders and 80ks long for juniors.

There will be 6 special tests and riders will be pre riding them before they are timed on them.

Once again there will be the special by the woolshed and riders are welcome to walk this on Friday afternoon.

Sign on is from 7 30 on Saturday morning and the enduro will start at 10am.

On Sunday the 5th is the Hauturu School fund raiser trailride.

In fact the whole 3 day weekend is a fundraiser for the local school. For the last 18 or 19 years the Hauturu School has been the main beneficiary from the events held out at Oparau.

The trail ride starts at 9 30 and there will be a 40k main loop and a 10k short loop.

Also a small kid’s track will be set up near the woolshed.

Following the Trail ride is the start of the No Way In Hell Extreme Enduro.

The prologue for the NWIH will start at 4 pm and will be a mini Extreme cross country race. All riders will start together and the first section is called the Bull Rush which is a race for about 1 km up the rocky riverbed in front of the woolshed and the first one to the top will the $100 Bull Rush prize.

The course will be about 5kms long for the prologue.

The Clubmen will complete about 4 laps and the Experts will do 6 laps and the pro riders will do about 8 laps.

The prologue will determine the start order for the following day but also your time from the prologue will be added to the following days race time.

The main race will start at 8am on the Monday morning with the first 10 riders leaving at one minute intervals and then the rest of the field leaving at 30 second intervals.

The first section is about 44kms long and at the end is where the clubmen will finish.

The second section is about 22kms long and the Experts will finish at the end of it. The final section is for the Pro riders only and is about another 20 odd kms.

For the NWIH it is very important that riders pre enter as we have to organize the meal after the event and also riders that pre enter will get a small pack of goodies when they sign in.

Also if you can’t make to the prologue you can still ride the main event on the Monday but you will just get the slowest time from your class in the prologue plus 5 mins.

So if you are looking for a great weekend competeing or watching come out and support the local Hauturu School and have a great weekend riding.
