Cycletreads Coming Online

Posted: Wed 06 Oct 1999

Cycletreads will very shortly have their own web site. The first version will have information on many of the the products Cycletreads carry at present as well as links to a variety of Websites which will be of interest to cycletreads customers and motorcyclists in general.

Ultimately all Cycletreads products will be listed on the website with on-line an ordering facility. Of course it\'s a bit of a moving target however as the range of products carried is increasing all the time. However you may want to take note of the following.....

(1) NZ Harley riders are sure to be interested in this.

A new shipment of Michelin tyres is about to land. The shipment is to stock up for the summer ahead and contains good quantities of the new Michelin \'Commander\'. These tyres were specifically designed for \'American Big Twins\'. They have been extensively tested in the USA by American riders. Michelin claim more than half a million \'miles\' of testing. The tyres have rayon casing plies instead of polyester which are reported to give a remarkably compliant ride and stable handling.
The rear tyre features aramid belts to control centrifugal growth of the tyre which helps maintain a large contact patch to provide excellent traction and even wear. Michelin have a reputation for excellent grip on both wet and dry roads and the Commander keeps to this tradition. The tread pattern provides excellent water evacuation and looks good as well. They will be available within (about) 4 weeks.

(2) Go Fast/Look Sharp

Cycletreads has recently started distributing the highly acclaimed \'Akrapovic\' brand of exhaust systems and mufflers. These systems are the choice of a number of the World Superbike teams including the factory Yamaha and Kawasaki teams. The build quality and finish is top rate - they look superb. In a recent issue of \'Performance Bikes\' magazine they were rated as number one for the overall increase in Horsepower and also provided the most power for the least noise. Having said that they still sound great. They have a deep throaty note and scream up top. Carbon Fibre and Titanium mufflers are available for most recent models of high performance sport bikes.

(3) For the racers and track day riders

A shipment of top UK made \"Wiz\" knee sliders is due within the next four weeks. The sliders come in a variety of plain colours as well as physcadelic designs. They have to be seen to be believed - they really add a splash of colour as well as do what they were designed to do extremely well. The velcro is heavy duty and the plastic wears as well as can be expected when sliding your knee at 100mph plus! Two versions are coming.
Standard will sell for around $60 a pair and GP style (contoured for L and R fitment) around $75.

(4) If you read any of the UK bike magazines you will have seen \"Xena Alarm Disc Locks\" advertised recently. Cycletreads is just finalising a deal to distribute these locks which offer unique adavntages over all other disc locks currently on the market.
The Xena Alarm Disc lock has, as the desciption says, a built in alarm. It\'s a motion sensitive alarm which serves two important functions. Firstly if someone starts to tamper with your bike any movement will trigger the alarm and scare them off. Secondly, in the event the rider forgets to remove the disc lock, before they can ride away the movement of the bike triggers the alarm as a not too subtle reminder. This can easily save the owner/rider of the bike a repair bill of several hundred dollars replacing bent discs and damaged brake calipers not to mention the additional damage the bike and rider could suffer if the net result was that the bike fell on it\'s side while trying to ride away.
This is one smart product. It should retail for around $79.95 which is a little more expensive than most other disc locks on the market however we believe the added benefits are worth $20 or so to anyone.

That\'s a good overview of a few things to come and I am sure these products will be \'good news\' for many NZ motorcyclists this summer.

And don\'t forget to try http://www.cycletreads.co.nz in 4 to 6 weeks time.
