This event was held at the Infracon Quarry at the end of Kendells Line, Linton. A good moto trial venue in that there are rocks everywhere and it’s different every year we ride there. There are no creeks to flood, we get the use of the quarry smoko room but it can be a windswept miserable place when the weather turns bad and it was on this weekend. Well at least on the Saturday when Steve and myself turned up there to set out the sections. In fact it was so wet, cold and windy and with similar conditions forcast for Sunday that we decided to abort the days mission and think about cancelling the event.
However by late Saturday I was sure it couldn’t be as bad on Sunday so we didn’t cancel. The boys all turned up early on Sunday morning and with no rain and little wind we soon had eight sections pegged out. And before long 16 riders were assembled and ready to go. The wind did increase during the day to the point where it was a bit of a nuisance at times in some sections and apart from a few spits the rain stayed away. A bit lucky considering a fair part of the country was being hammered with bad weather.
The sections didn’t prove too demanding considering the nature of the rocks at this place. They can be bike and body busters if you get it all wrong and crash heavily but everyone came through unscathed. The only incidents to report were Tony Smith’s Sherco being reluctant to start before the trial (again), Jamie Mead’s Beta losing sparks mid trial and Jim Sharrat’s keys becoming locked inside of his Hilux requiring a break and enter job.
The next moto trial is the final round of the club champs and will be hels on Murray’s farm at the nd of Kahuterawa Road on October 17th.
