Road Racing: Qualifying At Pukekohe

Posted: Sun 11 Mar 2007

Yamaha "Young Gun" Australian Scott Charlton topped qualifying the Superbike class at round five of the SsangYong New Zealand Superbike Road Race Championships at Pukekohe Park, just south of Auckland, today.

The Trans-Tasman battle is still on between Aussie Robbie Bugden who qualified second and Hamilton’s Andrew Stroud, who qualified fourth.

Whakatane’s Tony Rees came home third fastest. Not bad for a retired rider only out for the ride.

Pukekohe’s Sam Smith set an unofficial lap record to take pole in the 600 Sports Production Class, chased closely by Charlton and Paekakariki’s Jay Lawrance on his Kawasaki.

Sunday will see two race for all classes, Superbikes, 600 Sports Production, Formula Three, 125cc Grand Prix, Sidecars and Post-Classics.
