HONDA RACING WELL PLEASED WITH NEW ZEALAND RIDERS ISDE RESULTS.

The International Six Days Enduro finished today at Taupo. 'Unofficial' results have the two Honda riders in the New Zealand Senior Trophy Team as Gold Medal recipients. They are Shayne King (New Plymouth) and Paul Whibley (Pahiatua)

Shayne was 11th overall and 6th in Class E2. Paul was 14th overall and 11th in E2.

For Shayne the Gold medal comes 10 years after he won his 500cc World Championship.

The NZ Senior Trophy Team is 'unofficially' 7th and the Juniors Trophy Team 10th.

Other Honda riders in those Teams were Lachlan Columb (Queenstown) in the Seniors and the Junior member was Adrian Smith (Thames).

The Honda Racing supported Rodney 2 Team of Peter Broxholme, Chris Power, and Renny Johnston were the 1st NZ Club Team home with their 9th overall. Broxy did extremely well in the Motocross Final today with a 2nd in the E2 Class and a 6th overall. 3rd in the E2 was the retiring former 5 times World Champion Joel Smets.

"It was fabulous to be part of the NZ Team" said an elated Shayne King this evening. "The pressure was really on both NZ Teams after we lost a rider from each. Add to that the event got tougher as it went. Never in my motocross career have I ever had to push my bike downhill ! The special tests were very technical and we were spurred on by the hundreds of Kiwi supporters who were out in the middle of nowhere. Many, would have walked 20 to 30 minutes into a stage. Today in the final motocross test I got a bad start and was in the middle of the pack. I was disappointed with my own effort as I could not move up and had to settle for 9th. The Gold Medal makes up for that however" he added.

Paul Stewart, Honda Racing's Team Co-ordinator was also elated. "Fourteen hour days, it's been a long week but we are well pleased that all the Honda bikes finished what has been a very tough event. The Gold Medals for Shayne and Paul are a big bonus. Also the Rodney 2 Team's 1st Kiwi Club home is no small effort believe me."
