ISDE06 - The Toughest Show On Turf

Posted: Sun 12 Nov 2006

The 2006 ISDE is shaping up to be the must-see event of the motorcycle year, and that's as it should be.

ALL terrain tests are easily accessible from sealed roads and are nothing if not spectacular. There have even been teams out with slashes & chainsaws clearing some of the brambles and undergrowth so that spectators can get even closer to the forest action.

These tests combine open natural terrain, fast forest trails, bogs, rocky sections, and include an awesome quarry test right next to Parc Ferme.

Entry to everything except the last days motocross section is free and you get to see the best riders in the world giving it everything they have. This has to be the deal of the century!

And that is not all...

I am just as keen to watch the club riders. This is the equivilant of being on the grid with Michael Schumacher, Rossi, or any of the greats of the motorsport world.

The ISDE offers club riders a chance to test themselves against the best in the world at the years ultimate event! This alone must make the six-day unique.

And make no mistake; all finishers deserve their medal. This is not an event for the faint-hearted. They are all fit, tough, experienced, and committed. And apart from the pressure of trying to avoid faster and slower riders, look after their bodies & bikes, and stay on time, they all know that getting stuck in a bog or an otherwise simple tumble that damages them or their machine could see them out of the event.

So, thrill to the Merrimans, Whibleys, & Kings and cheer for the club riders from around the world who have spent the last year building to this event.

Again, if you have the opportunity, get across to Taupo and check it out. You won't regret it.
