ISDE06 - 13 women

Posted: Fri 10 Nov 2006

There are more women at this ISDE then at any previous event and, in this male dominated sport, they are going head-to-head with the men.

The ISDE does not yet have a womens class but if the number of women continue to increase at subsequent events then maybe such a class is not far away.

Not that anyone was heard complaining. These women are all multi-skilled atheletes and there will be quite a few men wishing that they could keep up.

The shortest day is the first and that is 235.5 km. Riders have 6 hours and 45 minutes to complete this, and then 15 minutes to do any tyre changes and whatever else needs doing to their bikes, before the bike is locked away for the night.

Then they get up and do it again the next day.

Australian Allison Parker specializes in this type of event. She recently took top honours in the womens class of the 2006 Aussie Off-Road Series. She has also competed in 5 Aussie 4-day Enduros (an event very similar in format to the 6-day), as well as the Australian Safari, & the Finke Desert Rally.
