6-Hour: Reece Burgess 2nd Ironman

Despite a close encounter of the tree kind, Te Puke Club member Reece Burgess came home 2nd Ironman at the Hawkes Bay 6 Hour. After six grueling hours Reece was only 11 seconds behind winner Cam Smith. This was on a brand new MakzGear Tauranga supplied KTM EXC 250F, only picked up and run in on Wednesday.

Reece was running a steady 2nd / 3rd most of the race and at one stage had a brief argument with a tree but was in the lead on the last lap when blitzed by Cam’s 450 on a fast open section near the end.

The result comes after finishing 3rd in class and a credible 8th overall at this years Tarawera 100. Normally a two stroke pilot, Reece said he found the new EXC-F 250 very easy to adapt to and to ride fast.
