Suzuki Trail Blazers

Posted: Tue 04 Apr 2006

I reckon Taupo and the central plateau is the epicentre for off road motorcycling in 2006. OK I might be just a bit biased, because I live in Taupo and run all my trail rides within a 1.5 hour radius of Taupo, but then you only have to take a look at all the other off road motorcycle activities in Taupo like the Taupo Winter MX series, the Labour weekend extravaganza and the huge event on this years calendar the ISDE to know that Taupo truly is the hub for road motorcycling for 2006.

To add to all the current off road events, I am launching a series of 5 Suzuki Trail Blazer trail rides to be run the second weekend of the month from May to September within 20 minutes of Taupo.

The Suzuki Trail Blazer series dates are;

  1. Sunday 14 May
  2. Sunday 11 June
  3. Weekend 8-9 July (2 day)
  4. Sunday 13 August
  5. Sunday 10 September

The rides feature fun flowing trails through the Tahorakuri pine forest. The soil type is pumice that provides great grip and berms and is all weather rideable. The terrain is not difficult so is great for kids and novices although a few more hills will be added this year to add some challenge. Check the pictures to see just how good the riding really is!

The plan is to use 2-3 different forests near Taupo to keep the trails fresh. Riders can be assured that the tracks will be graded each month to breathe new life into any trails that are repeated.

Suzuki Trail Blazer has been around since 2002 and was the second trail ride launched by Epic Events (after Suzuki Desert Storm). The two rides run in August and September 2005 were very popular and attracted 650 and 500 riders respectively.

General information on the first event Sunday 14th May 06.
