Former motorcycle road racing ace John Hepburn has won the A-CLASS of the New Zealand Super Truck Racing championship, following the final round at Manfield last weekend.

After installing a new engine for the meeting, Hepburn qualified third in his R V Cooper sponsored KM Bedford truck, and finished third in the first of three races. The Timaru-based racer proudly took his first Super Truck win in race two, closing series leader Calvin Bonney’s points advantage to one point.

Andrew Porter went on to win the final race, as Hepburn managed to hold off Bonney to cross the line second, taking victory in the A-Class with it.

Hepburn completed the three-race season in second place overall, behind Andrew Porter, and is hoping his truck racing success will lead to a car drive in the near future. Hepburn had a difficult start to the summer race season after suffering major injury last September following an ATV accident, while setting up the New Zealand Motocross championship track near Waimate. “After having my motorcycle road race season taken away from me before it started, I’m absolutely rapt with my truck racing results!” Hepburn said, who plans to remain involved with motorcycle road racing next season after managing the Norjo Motors Kawasaki team last season.
