1-1-1-2 FOR KAWASAKI RIDERS AT MOSGIEL

MARCH 27, 2006: The Team Green boys are at it again.

It was one, one, one, two as Kawasaki riders finished on the podium in four of five classes at round two of the New Zealand Motorcycle Cross Country Championships near Mosgiel at the weekend.

Maramarua’s Scott Bregman again blitzed the field in the under-200cc two-stroke class, finishing an incredible third overall on his diminutive Kawasaki KX125, up against the might of the 250cc two-stroke and 450cc four-stroke bikes of the outright winner, Motueka’s Brad Thomas (Suzuki RM250), and runner-up Heath Howlett (Yamaha WR450F).

Bregman had also cleaned up his class at the opening event of this season’s four-round series, near Pahiatua three weeks ago.

Meanwhile fellow Team Green rider Kevin Hermansen, of Norsewood, was similarly dominant in the under-300cc four-stroke class. Hermansen (Kawasaki KX250F) finished sixth overall.

“The track conditions were appalling,” said Hermansen afterwards. “The organisers had to have separate starts for the various classes because of the visibility dangers. It was just so dusty.

“I’m happy though to be leading my class but I wouldn’t say the title is in the bag for me just yet.”

Points for the series count for only three ! of the four rounds, so it is unlikely a clear leader will emerge until the start of the final round, near Blenheim on May 6.

Invercargill rider Justin Shaw rode his Kawasaki KX450F to runner-up spot in the over-301cc four-stroke class at Mosgiel, while veteran rider Simon McKenzie rode his KX450F to the top of the podium in the over-35 years’ class, with fellow Kawasaki man Chris Smythe, from Waipukurau, close behind in third place on his KX250F.

The national cross-country series next heads to Huntly, for round three on April 9, and winds up with round four in Blenheim in May.
