Whibley wins XC

Hi Guys

On the weekend I raced a local XC series race (only 5 hrs drive away).Scott also decided to race on his XR650 (keen man). The track was very tight and the ground conditions were perfect in most places but some serious ruts and bogs formed,I guess that is what you expect when there are about 400 riders on the 25 min loop at the same time. The last class left the start line just before us pros came around to complete one lap!!

I got a good start and followed some guys round the first lap and passed them as they each made a mistake, i was 2nd end of lap 1. Glenn Kearny (GNCC #3) was out front. I rode around and begain to get pressure from another GNCC regular and local hero Dustin Gibbson, so I clicked up a gear and caught Kearny.

We had a bit of a 3 way battle for a lap until me and Dustin gapped Kearny. We contiued to battle until the last lap when I got a small gap on Gibbson.

I caught a lapper late in the lap and he crashed right in front of me, I had nowhere to go and ended up wedged in between his rear wheel and mud guard. I pulled the bike out but Gibbson passed me and was gone.

I pushed hard and amazingly caught him right before the end of the lap before the last grass section. I put a pass on him round the outside of a corner exiting some woods and railed on to the chequers.

Scott did really well, finishing 4th in his first race in nearly 5 months

Till next time
