WARKWORTH THE PLACE FOR A GOOD TIME

MARCH 13, 2006: There can be only one result when the event's called the Good Times Scramble, a damn good time.

Warkworth hosts round one of this season's Kawasaki Good Times Scramble motocross series next Sunday, on Harvey Curran's property, Curran Road, just five minutes' drive from the town centre, and it is expected to attract about 300 riders from throughout the country.

The concept for the series is simple, according to Kawasaki Team Green manager Mike Ramsey, of Auckland.

“It is a proven race format and it brings motocross to the masses. No man-made jumps are created, so it's all natural terrain. The course is challenging but still not too daunting, nice rolling grassland,” he said.

He said the race programme for the Good Time events was unique too.

“It caters for all dirt bike riders, males and females, from those as young as six to veterans in their 50s and even older. Riders are shuffled into categories by age, ability and bike capacity, enabling riders to mix and match to race against others in the three divisions that suit them.”

That means you'! ll probably only have to line up against someone like Shayne King once in the day.

No racing licence is required because Kawasaki has subsidised all riders and will pay their day-licence fees.

The Warkworth and Spectrum Motorcycle Clubs will run the event but Ramsey will drive up from Auckland to oversee proceedings.

Junior riders get four races and senior riders get five -- two age-group, two bike capacity and one by ability grading,” said Ramsey.

The quick-fire 34-race programme kicks off at about 10am.

Round two is set for May 21 near Palmerston North and round three is near Blenheim on July 23.
