WOR WINTER SERIES ROUND 3 - SUNDAY 4th DECEMBER 2005
In conditions officially described by race director Steve Ireland as 'snotty'; the third and final round of the 2005 Wirral Off Road Winter Hare Scramble championship was held at Tyfos, nr Corwen on Sunday 4th December 2005. Much of the lap was similar to that used for the first round in October, however several days of heavy rain prior to Sunday conspired to create incredibly difficult underfoot conditions and make each lap a true test of winter riding skills. By the time the senior riders came to the line at 12.30, the rain had given way to a sunny winter day, but conditions remained treacherous particularly in the forestry sections.
The kids opened the day with a 10 am start and with the rain still falling; the decision was made to reduce their race to one-hour. The conditions called for a smooth riding style, which suited Sam Lee perfectly and he duly took the 125 class and overall race - completing 4 laps and finishing over 5 minutes clear of runner up Andrew Knowkley with Sam Hobday third and Joe Roberts 4th all on 4 laps.
