Brand New Motocross Documentary Set For Release

Posted: Sat 19 Nov 2005

"Paced" an introspective look at the sport of motocross through the thoughts and musings of seven of the best riders in the world and conveyed by the action and images of the World Championship and Motocross of Nations will be on sale this week.

The seventy-five minute documentary examines this intense and spectacular off-road motorcycle racing discipline by focussing on the highlights and low points of the 2005 Grand Prix series and the run up to the Motocross of Nations at Ernee; the most prestigious off-road event in the world and the only team-based Motorsport competition.

Exclusive interviews with Multi AMA MX and Supercross Champion Ricky Carmichael, nine times World Champion Stefan Everts and fellow GP protagonists Ben Townley, Josh Coppins, Antonio Cairoli, Tyla Rattray and Billy Mackenzie form the basis of the film as they relay their recollections and opinions of their profession involving themes such as fear, the exhilaration of jumping, the sensation of crashing and the physical demands of the sport as well as their expectations approaching the Nations in France where they would go on to represent their countries in front of 60,000 spectators.

The documentary is presented on DVD and has been created to satisfy the appetite of hard-core fans with unseen and special access to the real stars and images recorded from the Grand Prix events as well as special footage filmed at Ernee, but will also serve as a fascinating introduction to motocross for those less well acquainted with arguably the most thrilling two-wheeled racing form.

The film also features interviews with the current American team consisting of Kevin Windham and Ivan Tedesco, and also former greats such as Eric Geboers, Jean-Michel Bayle and Roger De Coster, who appear along with a wide range of current Grand Prix stars from within the paddock.

This documentary and DVD will bring the viewer closer to the sport than ever before.

Aside from the film a bumper selection of "Extras" include:

* Extended interviews with principal stars: Watch further quotes from Carmichael, Everts, Townley, Coppins, Rattray and Mackenzie that didn't make the final cut * Out-takes reel
* Grand Prix crash reel
* Motocross of Nation press conference b-roll 'Behind the scenes'
* Fun interview section within the Grand Prix paddock: A range of Grand Prix stars lend their opinions on the best looking girls!
* Ernee photo gallery: A selection of images presented in a slide-show from the sport's best photographer Ray Archer.

The DVD is available to purchase from this week.

"The idea was Ben Townley's originally because he saw that the World Championships did not have something similar to 'The Great Outdoors' that documents the American motocross scene so well," commented one of the film's main producers Glen Dempsey. "We began some discussions and found numerous partners were also enthusiastic about the project and it rolled on from there. We were able to gather an all-star cast and it has turned out much better than we could have hoped for on limited means."

"I wanted to make something that would appeal to the motocross fan but also be an interesting account of what the sport is about generally," said writer and director Adam Wheeler. "I think the film benefits enormously from the presence of the best riders, which we were lucky to get. This is not a season review; it is an examination of the sport through the experiences of these guys as they go negotiate Grand Prix races and then get ready for the Motocross of Nations which blew everyone away at France this year. I think people will be happy at some of the extras we managed to create for the disc also."
