Townley is only challenge for Everts in Keiheuvel

The “Keiheuvel” circuit in Townley’s European hometown Balen, has played host to a day of exciting racing at the fifth round of the Belgian MX champs.

Townley looked the man to beat all day and his excellent starts propelled the factory KTM to the front in all three races. Townley ran away with victory in the first heat however a small mistake in the second meant that he lost his lead to Stefan Everts and team-mate Ramon. Townley still managed to fight back and close down Everts and Ramon by the chequered flag to finish a close third.

The third and deciding heat of the day looked to be going in Townley’s favour as he led from lap one but by the midway point Everts had managed to find a way pass the young challenger. As the two started to lap backmarkers, BT put on the pressure! Unfortunately with five minutes to go Townley could not avoid a backmarker and ploughed straight into the back of the slower rider and machine. He immediately reduced his speed and exited the track - Townley had wrenched his ankle in the process and re-aggravated his niggling injury.

“I can’t believe it,” winced the unbelieving Kiwi. “I’ve just got over this ankle injury and now I’ve gone and hurt it again. This game is so unforgiving. I’ll have a scan and x-rays tomorrow to see the extent of the damage and then make a decision if I will ride Gaildorf or not.”
