Townley Challenges at the Citadelle:

The historical “Citadelle” circuit in Namur has played host to the fourth round of the MX1 world championship. KTM’s key man, Ben Townley, was determined to get back into the championship fight at the famous Belgian circuit when he went 7-2 to post a well deserved third overall. Townley seemed to be riding quite reserved as scattered rain showers over the weekend had made the more the circuit extremely difficult and unpredictable. BT never quite found his rhythm in the first race however he did manage a last minute charge which saw him catch fellow countryman and housemate, Josh Coppins to finish seventh.

The second heat would most certainly be a form of redemption for Townley. He capitalized on a reasonable start and quickly moved passed the Dane, Brian Jorgensen into second position while Everts was setting the pace up front. Townley tailed the Belgian for most of the race however it was in the closing stages of the race when the Belgian crowd got to its feet. The young New Zealander had succeeded in closing down a sizeable gap and was now reeling in the master. Going into the last lap Townley was all over Everts and as he tried to make his move in the whoops BT made a slight mistake which handed Everts victory.

“I have mixed feelings about today. The first heat I was riding too cautious and didn’t take any risks which just cost me so much ground. Towards the end I picked up the pace and then finished strong. The second race was way better and I found my rhythm right from the start. I got by some guys really quickly and was about five seconds behind Stefan. I pushed really hard to catch him and I almost got him on the last lap. It was close!” said BT.
